The Language Exchange

Welcome to our Language Exchange! This blog is a platform for my students to publish their own texts in the languages I teach them. I think this might be a good way to motivate them to learn languages. Feel free to comment on the posts. And please be nice. (Every student has written an introductory post, usually accompanied by a photo. You can find them in the archives.)

If I could ... - by Patrick

Patrick has just learned the various types of conditional sentences in school, so I gave him this task to practice:

If I could change an important thing in my village, I would open up a center for teenagers. We don't have that yet. I would choose an abandoned house and tear it down. Then I would build a new house instead. It would have several rooms. There would be a cinema, a disco, a sports center, a bowling alley, a reading room, a computer room with internet and other things. All teenagers could meet there whenever they wanted to. Cleaning and repair works would have to be done by all teens themselves. We would have a lot of fun!

School's out - by Jennifer

I'm in 11th grade and this is my last year of school. After the summer holidays I'm going to begin an apprenticeship as a nurse. I'm going to work in a hospital not far from my place. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm also a little bit anxious because I don't know what it will be like. The apprenticeship lasts three years. After that I will perhaps do further training in a special area.
I think I will have good possibilities to find a job as a nutritionist or as a surgical nurse.

Protesting the Olympic Games - by Alexander

I have seen the news about the Olympic torch. They have shown how protesters tried to disrupt the relay of the Olympic torch because China is violating human rights in Tibet. People wanted to extinguish the Olympic flame, as the Olympic Games are taking place in China this year.
I think the protests are justified because the Tibetans have human rights and China mustn't violate them. What is your opinion?

Little kittens - by Helke

I have a cat, and I think she is pregnant because she has a big belly. My father says four kittens are inside, my sister thinks three kittens are inside. I say five, but as it is her first litter, it can't be so many. We will see ...

Nazis - by Klara

Some days ago I read an article about Nazis and the NPD (a German right-wing party). There was an interview with insiders and their typical statements about foreigners in Germany. For example, "foreigners take our work away" or "all foreigners are criminal or violent". I say German people are criminal like others, too. The NPD members say they are proud to be German, but I think nobody has the right to be prideful about what the Nazis did to the Jews in the past.
