The Language Exchange

Welcome to our Language Exchange! This blog is a platform for my students to publish their own texts in the languages I teach them. I think this might be a good way to motivate them to learn languages. Feel free to comment on the posts. And please be nice. (Every student has written an introductory post, usually accompanied by a photo. You can find them in the archives.)

Me and my sheep - by Helke

A few weeks ago I sold my sheep Lisa. Now I have a new sheep, it is still a lamb. I named it Hein Egon Bruce. My mother wanted Hein, because that's my grandfather's name and it was his birthday that day. My sister wanted Egon. My father wanted Bruce according to the black guy of "Germany's Next Top Model" because the lamb is all black.

Smoking - by Laura

Here's a dialog Laura had to make up between a smoker and a non-smoker:

A: I think I need a cigarette now.
B: What? You smoke?
A: Sure. You want one?
B: No, I don't smoke. It's not good for your health.
A: Yeah, right. Everyone smokes. It's normal ... and I'm fit.
B: I don't feel happy about it. Many people who smoke are very ill. It is not good for you.
A: It's my life. I can do what I want. You don't tell me what I do.
B: I would like to help you!
A: How now? Mind your own business. It's my life.
B: But I'm your good friend. I want to help you.
A: Don't bother me. When I think I need a cigarette, then I smoke.
B: Ok, then do that. But it's not good. Be that as it may. But not near me, go out.
A: Ok, I'll go out. But tell me nothing about your opinion. It's my life.
B. All right.

What do you think about this dialog? Is it realistic? Maybe someone has had a similar conversation? Please comment.

Doping - by Klara

Many athletes do doping because they would like to win sport games. The athletes get money for the winning of the sport they do. No success - no money. When an athlete wins for the first time, he or she wants this every time. But doping can be dangerous because it's a drug. Every year 6.000 people die.
I think the athletes should do the sport honestly and should do intense training and not practise doping.
