The Language Exchange

Welcome to our Language Exchange! This blog is a platform for my students to publish their own texts in the languages I teach them. I think this might be a good way to motivate them to learn languages. Feel free to comment on the posts. And please be nice. (Every student has written an introductory post, usually accompanied by a photo. You can find them in the archives.)

Easter at the Zoo - by Ilka

Last weekend was Easter. I was in Berlin at my aunt's. On Friday we went to the zoo, there we saw Knut. In the enclosure next to Knut was a brown bear. A little boy was standing in front of us near the brown bear and said to his mum: "Why has Knut become so brown?"

Boys' and Girls' Day - by Peter

If I was to organize a Boys' and Girls' Day at our company, I would show the kids the process of developing a new road construction machine.
I would start with a short presentation about the company I work for. Then, after breakfast, we would go to the construction area. Here is the first step of development. It's not so interesting for the kids because there is just a lot of computers. Then we would go to the production department, starting with the steel construction. There are a lot of machines and it's very interesting. When the tour is finished, I would ask the boys and girls what was interesting for them and if they want to look at the workplace once more. I would allocate the kids to their workplaces and pick them up at 2.00 pm.
In the end I would hand out some giveaways - and that's it!

Pirates of the Atlantic - by Patrick

Patrick had to study for a test using the Simple Past and "pirates" vocab, here's what he worked out:

One day a sailing ship left the harbour of New York. On the ship was a rich family from Long Island. After a few hours, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, they could see a thunderstorm coming up at the horizon. Sharks were everywhere around the boat. Suddenly a ship approached. When it was quite near, they could see a skull on the flag flying from the mast. It was the "Witch of the Waves", the most feared ship in the world. Only the most terrifying pirates were on it. The family was scared by them. The pirates entered their sailing ship and kidnapped their eldest daughter. She was a beautiful girl with long blonde hair. Then they stole their money. They took the girl with them to an unknown island which you couldn't find on any map. On this island, there was a treasure in a cave 500 metres below the ground which was guarded by poisonous snakes.
The girl had to put up with the situation and she fell in love with the captain. They got married on the island and together they went on to rob many ships and got richer and richer.

Blog Survey

We are presently conducting a survey that has been created by students who publish here in this blog. We would very much appreciate if you took part in it. It should open as a pop-up window when you enter this site - if it doesn't, just use the link in the sidebar to get there or click on the headline of this post. It won't take long, only 10 questions.
Thank you for your time!
