The Language Exchange

Welcome to our Language Exchange! This blog is a platform for my students to publish their own texts in the languages I teach them. I think this might be a good way to motivate them to learn languages. Feel free to comment on the posts. And please be nice. (Every student has written an introductory post, usually accompanied by a photo. You can find them in the archives.)

On Holland - by Heiko (46)

When I think of Holland, I think of "Frau Antje" cheese. "Frau Antje" was a famous TV spot for cheese here in Germany. I also think of grachten, tulips, bicycles. Moreover, the famous painter Van Gogh comes to my mind. Besides, from my last holiday in Holland I have some guilders left over.

Aha, then your last visit to The Netherlands has been quite some time ago, since we have euros since 2001 (I believe). You should keep them, maybe they become of value later on.
Van Gogh is indeed one of our most known painters. His paintings are known all over. What about Rembrand? Do you know him??
I know about that TV-commercial. It gave a very traditional image of the Netherlands.

If you should ever visit Holland again and Amsterdam in particular, go and check out the Nemo museum. Very interesting also for kids. They are allowed to touch anything.
Or try and visit Giethoorn, it's like Venice in Holland.

Greetings from Monique from Holland

I think it is a very good idea with the guilders ...
What kind of paintings did "Rembrandt" paint?
