Welcome to our Language Exchange! This blog is a platform for my students to publish their own texts in the languages I teach them. I think this might be a good way to motivate them to learn languages. Feel free to comment on the posts. And please be nice.

On Holland - by Helke (15)
When I think of Holland, I think of drugs because it is allowed by law to buy and use soft drugs. I think of flowers, too, in particular of tulips. I don't know why.
Yep, that is one aspect that comes to mind when thinking of Holland. It's an image thing, which may not be that accurate anymore. It's not a black and white story it used to be. More and more people think drugsissues should be tackled in a different manner, but compare drugs to beer/alcohol or cigarettes? Why should the first two be legal for private use and the other one not? They all are addictive and can be very detrimental to your health. And what about this? Does it help to just jail drugaddicts and kick them on the streets after the end of their sentence? or is it better to treat them during imprisonment or in stead of it. The hard way is not always the best way, at the end of the day.
Tulips are the most well known flower known abroad when thinking of Holland, so I'm not surprised you came up with that.
You can buy alcohol and cigarettes when you are 18 years old and that is a good thing. If alcohol and cigarettes were illegal, you could still buy them under the counter. I don't use drugs, that's why I don't know much about drugs.
I agree with your comment, Monique. So I think it is not the right way to put addicts into jail just to get them away from the streets. But in jail most of them get drugs, too, or it is the first thing they do when they get free. It would be better if addicts got professional help in rehab.
